With European club pre-seasons in full swing, it's time to note the kickoff dates for the major international leagues. Here's a handy guide:


August 10, Friday:

Premier LeagueThe English league is among the first to start, featuring Manchester United vs. Leicester in the opening match. The rest of the games will take place over Saturday and Sunday.

Eredivisie: In the Dutch league, the opening match will be Zwolle vs. Heerenveen, also on Friday. Other matches will follow over the weekend.

Ligue 1: The French league kicks off with Olympique de Marseille vs. Toulouse. The defending champions, PSG, will play their first match on Sunday, August 12.

Liga NOS: The Portuguese league begins with Benfica hosting Vitória de Guimarães on Friday. Porto will face Desportivo Chaves on Saturday, and Sporting will visit Moreirense on Sunday.


August 17, Friday:

Serie A: While the opening match of the Italian league hasn't been announced, Juventus will debut against Chievo, and Lazio will play Napoli during the first round of matches.

La Liga: The Spanish league starts with Girona vs. Valladolid and Betis vs. Levante. Barcelona will host Alavés on Saturday, Real Madrid will play Getafe on Sunday, and Atlético Madrid will visit Valencia on Monday.


August 24, Friday:

Bundesliga: The German league begins with the defending champions, Bayern Munich, facing Hoffenheim. Other matches will follow over the weekend.


September 18, Tuesday:

Champions LeagueWhile the initial phases are already underway, the group stage matches of the Champions League will start on September 18. The group draws are yet to be conducted.
